AI Overviews
Google's AI answers sit above the results and cite a handful of sources. This is how a roofing page becomes one.
Definition
An AI Overview is a synthesized answer Google places at the top of a search results page, built from a handful of web sources it cites by name. For a roofing query like "how long does a roof replacement take," the overview answers the question directly and links the sites it drew from.
Why it matters for a roofing company
When an overview answers the question, fewer people scroll. The traffic that remains concentrates on the cited sources. Being one of those sources is a different objective from ranking third organically, and it requires different page structure: a direct answer in the first sentence, unambiguous scope, and structured data confirming who is answering.
What makes a page citable
Definition-first paragraphs, one question per section, specific and verifiable claims, schema that identifies the page type and the business behind it, and no requirement to execute JavaScript before the answer is readable.
How it is measured
By fixing a query set and checking, on a cadence, whether your pages appear as cited sources. Coverage across the set is the metric. There is no rank position to report, which is why Roof-Rank reports coverage instead.

Short answers.
Can I pay to appear in an AI Overview?+
No. Overview citations are not sold. Structure and clarity are the only levers.
Does appearing in an overview cost me clicks?+
It can reduce total clicks while raising the quality of the ones you get, because a visitor who clicks a cited source has already read your answer.
